How She Revels: Ellen Curtis

At 76 I launched Statement by Ellen C – a fashion line upcycling denim jackets and loungewear.

I love dancing to live music, going to plays and museums, traveling, gardening, and plotting local adventures with friends.

Age: 77

Location: Los Angeles, CA

What do you do for work?

After being a private psychiatric nurse for 50 years, at 76, I launched Statement by Ellen C – a fashion line upcycling denim jackets and loungewear with appliques, rhinestones, and other embellishments.

What do you do for fun?

I love dancing to live music, going to plays and museums, traveling, gardening, and plotting local adventures with friends.

What’s the most exciting thing that happened to you recently?

I unexpectedly got to see the Gypsy Kings at The Greek theater, recently. It was my first concert or major outing since the pandemic began – and it was amazing!

Last great book you read?

Sadly, I haven't been reading much due to my startup activities.

Last Google search?

Most of my searches are how-to videos because I am constantly learning new sewing and applique tips – not to mention fix it tricks! – for my new business.

Tell us something surprising about yourself?

As a psych nurse specializing in addiction, I helped many famous people begin their journeys to recovery. I also cared for patients on the show Intervention and still work with The Dr. Phil Show when they need a nurse.

Best new discovery?

I’m not new to LA, but I recently discovered Kenneth Hahn Park and its epic views. It’s in the middle of LA (just off La Cienega), so you can see Downtown, the Hollywood sign and the ocean. You can also feed the most entertaining ducks and geese!

What are you excited to host or attend (or both!) on Revel?

I'm always excited to attend Saturday Night at The Movies, Eye Candy, and The Moveable Feast. Looking forward to the museum event and the storytelling series. Revel has so much to offer!!
